It is too late to hand over Manipur video probe to CBI: Raghav

Raghav Chadha attack on BJP: Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha slammed the BJP government accusing it of violating the constitution and parliamentary laws. He said that historically, whenever a no-confidence motion moved by the opposition was accepted by the Speaker, no further legislative work was done until the motion was debated and voted on.

On the contrary, the BJP government is flouting these rules, carrying out regular operations and passing the bill without addressing the no-confidence motion. He appealed to the government and the speaker to prioritize the debate and hold a vote on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha before proceeding with other matters.

Raghav Chadha also said that a delegation of the India Alliance will visit Manipur to express solidarity with the people of the state and gain a better understanding of the situation on the ground. They highlighted the appalling conditions in Manipur, in which thousands of people were displaced, hundreds lost their lives, and heinous crimes against women and humanity were committed.

He criticized the central government for not taking any steps despite repeated concerns expressed by the state governor and BJP leaders. He questioned why the present Manipur government has not been dissolved, and why constitutional solutions, such as Articles 355 and 356, are not being used to restore peace and save lives.

He said the government’s response might have been different if Manipur was a large state with more seats, like UP, which has 80 seats. He said that if there was a non-BJP government in Manipur, the central government would have imposed President’s rule long ago.

On the matter of the CBI taking over the investigation into a Manipur video, he criticized the delay in the action, saying it had come too late after nearly three months and was therefore “too late.” He said that it took 80-85 days for BJP to take action while people are suffering every day due to the failure of the state government.
