ISRO launches SSLV-D2, know its specialty

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched the second version of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D2) from the first launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Center at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. It was launched at 9.18 am. The new rocket will attempt to place three satellites — ISRO’s EOS-07, US-based firm Antaris’ Janus-1 and Chennai-based space startup SpaceKidz’s AzaadiSAT-2 — into a 450-km circular orbit during its 15-minute flight. Let’s know its special features

1. ISRO If to be believed, SSLV caters to the launch of satellites up to 500 kg into low earth orbits on a ‘launch-on-demand’ basis. Rockets offer a lot for space at a low cost. It has short turn-around time and is flexible to accommodate multiple satellites. It is also useful for minimal launch infrastructure.

2. SSLV is a 34 meter long, 2 meter diameter vehicle. Its weight is 120 tonnes.

3. The rocket has three solid propulsion stages and is configured with a velocity terminal module.

4. On February 8, ISRO tweeted that “SSLV-D2/EOS-07 mission: will be launched on February 10, 2023 at 09:18 from Sriharikota. There is an attempt to inject EOS-07, Janus-1 and AzaadiSAT-2 satellites into a circular orbit of 450 km.

5. Let us tell you that the first test flight of SSLV failed due to a partial failure on August 9 last year.
