The Sports Minister of Punjab congratulated the football team on winning the SAIF Championship. When a decision was not reached in 90 minutes, both teams were given two extra halves of 15 minutes each. Neither India nor Kuwait scored in extra time, after which the winner was decided in a penalty shootout.
The score was still 4-4 after five rounds of penalty shootout, after which a sudden death decision was taken. Mahesh Norem scored and Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Sandhu dived to save Khalid Hajia’s shot.
Let it be known that India has not lost a single match in the tournament. India defeated Pakistan and Nepal in the group stage and drew with Kuwait. The Indian team defeated Lebanon in the penalty shootout in the semi-finals.
