Punjab hockey players to get Rs 1-1 crore reward: Sports Minister

CHANDIGARH: The Indian men’s hockey team made history after 41 years by winning a bronze medal in the Olympics by defeating a strong German team 5-4 in the Olympics, Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi announced today. The government would honor each hockey player in the state with a cash prize of Rs. 1-1 crore.

On India’s glorious victory, the Sports Minister tweeted, “On this historic day of Indian hockey, I am proud to announce a cash prize of Rs 1-1 crore to the players of Punjab.” We look forward to your return to celebrate the hard-won medals at the Olympics.

“It was a tough and interesting competition,” he said. Our boys have done this at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and have won an Olympic medal for the country after 41 years. India and Punjab are proud of the team’s glorious victory. Rana Sodhi said that out of the total 20 players from Punjab, 11 players are in the Indian hockey team.
