Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today directed the police department to save the common people from unnecessary hassles due to Registration Certificate (RC) and Driving License (DL).

Presiding over a meeting here today, the Chief Minister said that the common people are facing a lot of problems due to the huge shortage of smart chips for driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates. He said that adequate efforts are being made by the state government to solve this problem as soon as possible so that the people do not have to face any kind of trouble. The Chief Minister has instructed the Transport Department to streamline and correct the entire process by making necessary amendments so that the printing of driving license and registration certificates can be ensured at the earliest.

The Chief Minister also said that before the situation worsens, strict action should be taken against those people who have not taken any steps for improvement before this. He also asked the officials to investigate the matter in a timely manner and submit the report to them so that action can be taken against the accused. Bhagwant Mann said that it needs to be understood that the delay in issuing new driving licenses and registration certificates is due to shortage of chips imported from outside the country.

The Chief Minister said that the situation could have been foreseen and practical solutions could have been taken earlier. He said that all approved licenses and R.C. Available on ‘Sarathi and Vahan Portal’ and can be downloaded and printed on DigiLocker or any device. Bhagwant Mann said that Digilakar or M. RC/DL downloaded from Parivahan App should be considered as an authentic document by the police and passengers who show this document online should not be challaned.
