The Food and Supplies Department of Punjab has canceled 88,064 ration cards of the Smart Ration Scheme (Ata Dal Scheme) in the last few days due to which 3,59,926 beneficiaries will not get government ration. This action has been taken on the ration card holders who have been found guilty. In fact, the Punjab government has started the investigation of the ration cards of the Atta-Dal scheme. During this investigation, the ration card holders who are being found guilty, their ration cards are being cancelled.

According to the sources, according to the report received by the Food and Supplies Department from the Deputy Commissioners till March 3, there are a total of 40.68 lakh ration card holders in Punjab. Out of these, the verification work of 37.79 lakh cards has been completed which is 92.89 percent. In this investigation, 3.30 lakh ration cards have been issued which did not fulfill the conditions. 88,064 ration cards have been cut from Aayog ration cards.

On the other hand, the cutting of such a large number of ration cards has created a stir and the opposition parties have started targeting the government on this issue. Where eligible ration cards have been cut, there is a growing protest against the government. People are also happy with those who have cut the ration cards of the wealthy. Most Aayog card holders are those who own cars. Poor people have suffered a lot in this investigation.

In many districts there is also pressure for re-examination. According to the investigation report, only every fourth ration card is valid in Tarn Taran district. In this district, 1.41 lakh cards have been scrutinized, out of which 36,982 (26.08 percent) have been approved. District Ludhiana is on the second number where 46 thousand ration cards have been issued.

The third number is district Bathinda, where 31,219 ration cards have been found in the examination of two lakh cards, which is 15.34 percent. Similarly, 13.11 percent in Ropar district, 12.98 percent in Fatehgarh Sahib, 13.42 percent in Faridkot, 11.14 percent in Mohali district, 9.99 percent in Mansa district, 9.05 percent in Ferozepur and 9.74 percent in Amritsar district.

Looking at the canceled ration cards, the maximum number of 29,725 ration cards have been canceled in Ludhiana district, while 8567 cards have been canceled in Ropar district. Apart from this, 7445 cards have been canceled in Moga district, 6155 in Hoshiarpur, 6063 in Bathinda and 4596 in Pathankot.

On this issue, Food and Supply Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak says that wherever eligible ration cards have been cut, they are being reconsidered. He said that the names of about three lakh beneficiaries have been cut and the verification work will be completed within ten days. He said that the needy will not be excluded from the scheme. He said that if someone’s eligible ration card has been cut, it is being reconsidered.
