Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI for taking bribe of Rs 10,000 | Punjab

Chandigarh February 25: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Balwinder Singh, posted at Sandour police station, Malerkotla district, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000.

A spokesperson for the Punjab Vigilance Bureau said ASI Balwinder Singh had been arrested on the complainant of Mohammad Sadiqe, a resident of Noor Basti, Malerkotla city.

The complainant approached the Punjab Vigilance Bureau alleging that the cop had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to cancel a case already registered against him and his family members.

The spokesperson said a VB team from the economic offences wing of Ludhiana range laid a trap and the accused was arrested on the spot while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Two official witnesses were also present.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI at the vigilance bureau  police station, Ludhiana. Further investigation is under progress.
