Long-term testing
IIT Kanpur has been working on the project since 2017, but the matter was stalled on getting permission from the DGCA for several years. After all the preparations DGCA has given permission for the test flight. The Uttar Pradesh government had allowed trials of cloud seeding several years ago.
According to the information, the Cessna aircraft, which took off from the airstrip of IIT, fired granular chemical powder at a height of 5,000 feet between thick clouds. All this was done at the top of the IITs. Immediately after the chemical firing, it started raining. Experts say that the certification for cloud seeding is given by the regulatory agency DGCA. After evaluating the results of this successful test flight, it will be decided whether further tests are to be conducted. Meanwhile, there was heavy rain around the IIT.

Can deal with drought conditions
Many chemicals such as silver, iodide, dry ice, salt and other elements are added to cloud seeding with the aim of increasing the chance of precipitation. An army aircraft was used in this test of IID Kanpur. Kanpur IIT professor says cloud seeding test is successful. This can deal with conditions like air pollution and drought in the near future.
