VVIP Helicopter Scam, Christian Michel

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Thursday said it will hear on February 7 the bail pleas of Christian Michel James, the alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland chopper scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have registered two separate cases in connection with the scam. This subject was discussed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice J. B. Pardiwala, which said that the petitions would be taken up for hearing next Tuesday.

It is noteworthy that this alleged scam of Rs 3,600 crore is related to the purchase of 12 VVIP helicopters from AgustaWestland. In May last year, the apex court had sought response of the CBI and the ED on the bail pleas of James. On an earlier date of hearing, the counsel for the accused had submitted that he was extradited from Dubai in December 2018 and has been in custody since then.

He said that the investigation against him is yet to be completed. James has challenged the Delhi High Court’s order dated 11 March 2022, in which his bail plea was rejected. James is also among the three alleged middlemen being probed in the case. The other two are Guido Haschke and Carlo Gerosa.
