The Government of Punjab has performed brilliantly in the Scotch Award-2023 and bagged 5 semi-final positions including a silver award in the field of horticulture.

Horticulture Minister Chetan Singh Jaudamajra congratulated the officials of the Department on getting the Silver Award for Vegetable Center of Excellence (Indo-Israeli Project) located in Kartarpur, Jalandhar. He said that this center is helping to bring significant change in the lives of farmers by significantly increasing their income.

Here, on-farm cold room of 3-5 metric tons has been standardized which has brought huge profits to the farmers. The center is encouraging farmers to adopt pre-harvest technology to adopt crop diversification by providing income equivalent to 1 acre from 1 kanal polyhouse while helping to bridge major gaps in the value-chain.

Equipped with modern techniques of post-harvest management, this premier center of Horticulture Department provides training to farmers as well as technical demonstrations and door-to-door delivery of disease-free seedlings to farmers. The center also has a state-of-the-art hydroponics unit and a plant clinic laboratory. It may be mentioned that the Center has so far provided more than 2 crore disease-free vegetable seedlings to farmers across Punjab.

The semi-finalist projects include Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Scheme, Project Phase, Bifertilizer Laboratory Hoshiarpur, Sericulture (Development of Silk Production in Punjab) and Potato Center of Excellence (Indo-Dutch Project)-Dhogari, Jalandhar. These projects have been lauded for their innovativeness and for making a positive impact for all partners and contributing at the grassroots level.

The Scotch Group is one of the leading think tanks in India, which deals with socio-economic issues with a focus on all-round development.
