Amritsar: The conflict between the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the Punjab government is increasing. After passing the amendment bill in the Vidhan Sabha regarding the broadcasting of Gurbani from Shri Harmandir Sahib, the Shiromani Committee has surrounded the Punjab government again. The Shiromani Committee is strongly objecting to some comments made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Budhlada MLA Budh Ram during the special session of the Vidhan Sabha.

According to available information, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has appealed to Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan not to make the anti-Sikh comments made during the special session of the Vidhan Sabha on June 20 a part of the record. Shiromani Committee Secretary Pratap Singh has sent a letter to the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha in this regard. The Shiromani Committee has also shared this letter on social media.

In this letter, the Secretary of the Shiromani Committee said that during the special session of the Vidhan Sabha, the Chief Minister had shared objectionable and factual views about the important parts of Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib’s Ragi and Sikh Kakara cases. Similarly, MLA Buddha Ram also mentioned the names of Bhagat and Bhat Sahibs in a disrespectful tone and language during his address. There is anger in the Sikh community regarding this matter.

He has appealed to the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha that the remarks of the Chief Minister and the MLA, which hurt Sikh sentiments, should not be made a part of the record of the Vidhan Sabha. Along with this, they have also asked to instruct the elected representatives to appreciate people’s sentiments and religious concerns. He said that the Vidhan Sabha is a platform of democratic and fair ideology, where disrespect of any religion has no place. The Speaker is the constitutional head of this House, so it is his responsibility to uphold its dignity.

The Secretary of the Shiromani Committee said that being the representative body of the Sikh community, the Shiromani Committee appeals to the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha to play a decisive role in the case of disrespect to the Sikh community and Sikh sentiments in the Vidhan Sabha and to take action against those who hurt the Sikh sentiments. The comments of the Chief Minister and MLA should not be made part of the record of the Assembly.

He has appealed to take this matter seriously. It may be mentioned that the comment made in the Vidhan Sabha about the attendance of the Harimandar Sahib has been objected by the attendance of the Ragis. Similarly, the comment made about the beard of a Gur Sikh is also being opposed by Sikh organizations.
