Health Tips: If you take Digene Gel Syrup to improve conditions like flatulence, gas, heartburn or stomach pain, then take Digene Gel Syrup without thinking. The Drugs Control General of India (DCGI) has issued an advisory warning to doctors against Digen Gel Syrup. Through this alert, the syrup manufacturing company has been instructed to stop using Digene gel and withdraw the medicine available in the market. This action has been taken after a complaint from a customer.

On behalf of the Drugs Control General of India, doctors have been asked to advise their patients not to use this product and to report it if it causes any reaction. If you find any suspicious case, inform the doctors immediately.

Also, the Drugs Control General of India asked patients not to use the company’s Digene syrup, which was manufactured at its Goa facility.

Meanwhile, the DCGI has asked wholesalers and distributors to immediately return any product manufactured by a Goan company. Such a product should not be sold to any patient.

On the other hand, the DCGI has directed the State/UT/Zonal and Sub-Zonal authorities to strictly monitor movement, sale, distribution, stock of this product in the market, take samples if the product is in the market, and accordingly Along with the Drugs-Cosmetic Act and Rules, instructions have been given to take necessary action.

What is the whole matter?
A person who purchased Digene Gel Syrup complained on 9 August 2023 that one bottle of Digene Gel Mint flavor has a normal (sweet) taste and a light pink color, while another bottle of the same batch has a bitter taste. Also, it has a pungent smell and is white in color. Following a customer complaint, syrup maker Abbott informed the DCGI office on August 11 that it was withdrawing its product from the market.

What did the company say?
According to media reports, an Abbott company spokesperson said, “Abbott in India has decided to recall Digene Gel antacid medicine manufactured at the Goa factory due to various customer complaints regarding taste and odor.” There are no reports of any patient in critical condition so far.
