On this occasion, Health Minister Navjot Kaur, Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Mohali, Director Health and Family Welfare Dr. Adarshpal Kaur, SDM Ravinder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahesh Kumar Ahuja, State Program Officer NVBDCP Dr. Arshdeep Kaur along with other senior health officials asked people to observe every Friday as a dry day to prevent dengue and other vector borne diseases.
The Cabinet Minister went door-to-door to inspect various water pots, water tanks, flower/plant pots, vessels used for watering birds outside or inside houses, parks and construction sites. The health minister checked every place where there was a possibility of dengue larvae and made people aware about it. He said that education and awareness for the prevention of dengue is the key to prevent the disease and the IEC (Information Education and Communication) campaign will continue till December until the breeding season of mosquito larvae is over.
During his visit, the Health and Family Welfare Minister also took strict notice of the larvae found in vacant plots and directed the Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mohali to take appropriate action. They released Gambushia fish in standing water in one such plot.
Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh appealed to the residents of the district to spend one hour every Friday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am to do anti-dengue activities in and around their homes. Meanwhile, all flower pots, standing water in coolers, refrigerator trays and any other containers filled with water should be dried apart from draining water so that the breeding cycle of mosquito larvae is broken, which It takes about a week to develop into an adult mosquito. He said that when the oil used for cooking/frying is no longer usable, we can also mix it with stagnant water to kill dengue mosquito larvae.
The Health and Family Welfare Minister also said that although dengue testing and treatment is completely free in government hospitals, we can protect ourselves from dengue by taking some simple precautions. Dr. Balbir Singh also appealed to the residents to come forward and lead this campaign by sensitizing people in their societies or neighborhoods about such precautions.
