Vigilance has arrested two more absconding accused of embezzlement in distribution of compensation for the land of Jalandhar Improvement Trust of Punjab. He was playing hide and seek with the vigilance for the last three years. The apprehended accused have been identified as Rajinder Singh and Ravi Kumar, residents of village Bilga, district Jalandhar.

A Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said that 94.97 acres of land had been acquired by the Jalandhar Improvement Trust for the Surya Enclave Extension Scheme. At the time of giving compensation, the accused had made fake people stand in place of the real persons. By preparing fake documents, in connivance with the officers and employees of the trust, the compensation amount of Rs 5,49,18,523 was embezzled.

Convicts Gobind Ram and Purushottam Lal involved in the case had embezzled an amount of Rs 2,12,76,211 and Rs 98,77,843 in connivance with the officers/employees of Jalandhar Improvement Trust by preparing fake documents. Both the accused, Rajinder Singh and Ravi Kumar, who mediated in getting the compensation, had checks of Rs.35,00,000 and Rs.20,00,00.

Police Station Nai Baradari, after the matter came to light, on 29 October 2013, sections 409, 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 201, 120B of the IPC and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, for the crime of grabbing compensation by preparing fake documents. A case was registered under 13. But later the matter was transferred to the Vigilance Bureau.
