It’s strange, but true. For 121 years, Nagfeni’s bridge did not move in the strong current of Koyal river and neither the bridge was damaged anywhere. The bridge remained standing on strong pillars. But, now the middle portion of the bridge had to be demolished to make a four-lane road. Because at the place where the old bridge was, a high level bridge is being constructed nearby. The work of new high level bridge is going on fast. Therefore, on March 18, 2023, the old bridge was demolished by installing three big machines.
Please tell that this bridge was built by the British in the year 1902 AD. This bridge connects many big states including Chhattisgarh, Mumbai, Hyderabad. Every day thousands of vehicles used to pass through this bridge. This bridge stands on 24 pillars. The current of Koel river remains very fast in the rainy season. However, this bridge did not get tossed in the fast current of the river and stood firmly.
The bridge used to submerge in water during the rainy season: This bridge used to submerge in water during the rainy season. Because considering the current of the river, the height of the bridge was not increased at that time. That’s why when it rained continuously for three-four days in Gumla, water used to flow four to five feet over the bridge. The river used to take the bridge in its lap.
The new bridge was built 10 years ago next to the old bridge:
In the rainy season, Gumla used to become an island for three to four days due to water flowing over the bridge. In view of this problem, 10 years ago a high level bridge was built next to the old bridge. Presently traffic is going through this new bridge. But, on the bridge built 10 years ago, iron has started appearing at many places. There is a loud sound when the wheel of the car hits the pothole.

It is said that the house of Martyr Telanga Khadiya is in Murgu village, five km away from Nagfeni Koyal river. When Telanga Khadiya started fighting against the British and the Zamindari system, the British used to search for him to catch him. At that time Telanga Khadiya used to take shelter on the banks of Koyal river or else they used to cross the river and hide in the nearby forest.
