In its order sent to NHAI on June 8, the government said- Executive Engineer, SDO, JE, Patwari, District Collector, Deputy Collector Water Resources who cross the toll barrier for their duty. They should be exempted from toll tax. Principal Secretary Water Resources has also written to the Regional Office of National Highway Authority of India in Panchkula, Haryana in this regard.
Principal Secretary Water Resources has written in his letter that the officials have to cross the toll plaza to perform their duties and they have to pay the toll tax. This puts a burden on the government’s exchequer. In his letter, he wrote to the NHAI that all officials/employees whose categories have been notified be exempted from toll tax.
NHAI has sent a written reply
NHAI Regional Officer Vipnesh Sharma has written a letter to the Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department, stating that the categories of officials and employees of the Water Resources Department are not covered in the national level para 11 list of persons, officials etc. Highway Fill Rule 2008 due to which NHAI cannot accept this proposal of Punjab Govt.
The resolution was passed in the assembly
The Punjab government had sent this proposal to NHAI on June 8. But the same resolution was also passed in the recently convened special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by the Punjab government. Which has been approved by the Punjab Assembly. After which these officials will get discount on Punjab government toll but will have to pay money on National Highway toll.
