Government procurement of wheat in Punjab has increased by 26 percent compared to last year

The work related to procurement of wheat across the state has almost been completed. The government procurement of wheat in Punjab is increasing by 26 percent compared to last year. 24,693 crore has been paid into the accounts of 8,09,149 farmers. In the year 2022-23, 96.34 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was procured by the government. While in 2023-24, the government has purchased 121.04 lakh metric tonnes of wheat.

Let it be known that last year due to extreme heat, wheat grains shrunk. Which had an impact on wheat production. But this time, despite the rain, hailstorm and strong wind, the figures of government procurement of wheat have increased compared to last year. Maximum 37.03 lakh metric ton of wheat has been procured by Pangrain Agency. Last year it had procured 28.81 lakh metric tonnes. FCI has procured the least 4.17 lakh metric tonnes of wheat.

Last year, FCI procured 6.21 lakh metric tonnes of wheat. It has been decided to close the markets for the purchase of wheat after May 25. 24,693 crore has been paid for wheat in the account of 8,09,149 farmers of the state. This payment is made as Minimum Support Price (MSP). It is directly deposited in the farmers’ account.
