According to the news published in the English newspaper Mint, the central government may invite bids for the auction of newly discovered lithium reserves in Jammu in the beginning of June quarter. Apart from two-wheeler or car companies, mobile phone companies will also benefit from this. Lithium is also used in mobile batteries.

According to media reports, lithium reserves have been confirmed in Jammu. G-3 level has been discovered here, which means that lithium reserves are present here. Its mining process can start soon. According to media reports, this will be an open auction, in which domestic and foreign companies can participate. But here the important condition of the government will be that lithium will be used only in India.
6 million tonnes of lithium reserves
Last week, India’s Ministry of Mines announced that large lithium reserves have been discovered in Jammu and Kashmir. The Geological Survey of India first discovered lithium reserves of 5.9 million tonnes in the Salal-Haimana area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, 650 km north of Delhi. If India gets Lithium from this region, then in the coming time, India can emerge as the king of the electric battery sector.
India needs an investment of 33000 crores
India will need to invest Rs 33,750 crore to meet the target of setting up 50 GW of lithium-ion cell and battery manufacturing plants under the government’s Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI), a study has said. The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), a research institute, released an independent study which says that the country will need 903 GW of energy storage to make its automotive and energy sectors carbon neutral by 2030.
