Let us tell you that a few days before this, there was news that the Punjab Haryana High Court had issued an order to make five reserved toilets for transgenders in the court to provide them with special facilities. Therefore, the place in the courtyard of the court has also been selected. This facility will be provided to the transgenders coming to the court soon.

Punjab Police has given great news to the transgenders. Transgenders will now be able to be a part of every process in the Punjab Police. The police has taken a decision in this regard while implementing the Transgender Act 2019. The main motive behind this by the police and the government is to provide equal opportunities to transgenders and integrate them into the mainstream of society. In this regard, the police headquarters has issued an order to all the branches and asked them to keep them in the reserve category. Also, orders have been issued to give benefits to transgenders like other reserved categories.

A special recruitment drive has been launched to provide job opportunities to the youth in the police department. It kept a reserved category for transgenders. Transgenders applying for police jobs will have to issue a certificate from the District Magistrate.

There will be equality with women candidates

Transgenders will get the same age group, application fee and other exemptions as other reserved categories. Notably, in Physical Screening Test and Physical Measurement Test, they will be considered at par with female candidates. However, their educational qualification will be specified in the advertisement for the recruitment process, which they will have to follow. In the letter issued by DGP Gaurav Yadav, it is hoped that the applicants from the transgender category will be greatly benefited by this.

Let us tell you that earlier this year when the constable recruitment process started in Chandigarh Police, a transgender named Sourav Kittu applied for it. However, he faced a lot of difficulties in this. Because Chandigarh Police online application form had two columns, male and female. There was no option for transgender. Kittu filed a petition against this in the High Court. She applied for the job after the High Court order, after which she also became the first transgender in the country to apply for the police job.
