Goindwal Sahib prison clash: Punjab govt suspends seven jail officials; five arrested | Punjab

Chandigarh, March 5: The Punjab government has taken strict action against its own police officers and accused after the video of the Goindwal Sahib jail incident went viral on Sunday.

According to reports, Punjab police have arrested jail superintendent Iqbal Singh Brar and four other prison officials, while the state government has suspended a total of seven officials.

Notably, two gangsters were murdered in a clash between members of two rival gangs on February 26.

The gangsters who shot the video and made it viral have been named in the FIR filed by police for unlawful assembly for an offence committed in prosecution of common object, criminal intimidation and under section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Police have also nominated the seven jail officials for their “negligence and connivance”.

Suspended jail officials include Brar, additional jail superintendents Vijay Kumar and Jaspal Singh Khaira, assistant jail superintendent Harish Kumar, two ASIs Joginder Singh and Harchand Singh and head constable Sawinder Singh.

Those arrested so far include Vijay, Harish, Joginder, and Harchand in addition to jail superintendent Brar.

Members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang Sachin Bhiwani and Ankit Sirsa were seen with other prisoners in the viral video celebrating the murder of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang members Mandeep Singh alias Toofan and Manmohan Singh alias Mohna. These two gangsters are accused in murder case of Sidhu Mossewala.

Another prisoner, Keshav, was injured in the violent clash and was taken to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.
