New Delhi: The Center filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court to give legal recognition to gay marriage. The Center told the Supreme Court that same-sex relationships and heterosexual relationships are distinctly different categories, which cannot be treated as the same. The Center apprised the Supreme Court that same-sex persons living together as partners, which has now been decriminalised, is not comparable with the Indian family unit concept of husband, wife and children.
The Central Government has opposed the petition in the Supreme Court recognizing same-sex marriage. The government said that such marriages cannot be compared with the concept of a child born of husband and wife in the Indian tradition. The central government has said this in the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court.
Centre apprises the Supreme Court that living together as partners by same-sex individuals, which is decriminalised now, is not comparable with the Indian family unit concept of a husband, a wife and children.
