To prevent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the state, a large-scale cattle vaccination campaign has been launched by the Animal Husbandry Department of Punjab.

Giving information in this regard, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries of Punjab. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that under the National Animal Disease Control Program 68,45,300 FMD. Vaccine doses have been obtained.

S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that under this campaign, a total of 48,73,277 FMDs covering about 75 percent of the cattle have been done so far. Vaccine doses have been administered. He said that vaccination of 100 percent livestock (about 65,03,505) will be completed in the state by December 20, 2023.

The Cabinet Minister said that this vaccination is being done completely free of cost and this vaccination is being done by the staff of Animal Husbandry Department of Punjab going to the houses of the cattle breeders/dairy farmers. The main objective of this vaccination campaign is to protect livestock from foot-and-mouth disease, which is considered a serious threat to livestock globally.
