Malaysian low-cost airline Air Asia X, which was shut down in March 2020 due to Covid-19, is resuming direct flights from Punjab to Australia, Kuala Lumpur, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries from September 3.

On Mondays and Sundays, the flight will depart from Kuala Lumpur at 7:35 AM and reach Amritsar at 11:00 AM and then depart from here at 12:30 PM and return to Kuala Lumpur at 8:55 PM. On Wednesday and Friday, the flight will depart at 8:25 PM Malaysian time and arrive at Amritsar at 11:50 PM and then 1 hour and 10 minutes later on the next day at midnight on Thursday and Saturday at 1:00 PM from Amritsar. It will depart and reach Malaysia at 9:25 am.
The airline will use a 377-seat Airbus A-330 aircraft with 12 business class seats. Passengers will be able to fly to Australia and other countries after only 2 to 4 hours from Kuala Lumpur. With the commencement of this flight, it will now take only 16 to 18 hours between these cities of Punjab and Australia. Passengers will also be able to take Air-Asia flights via Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Bali and other tourist cities within a very short period of time. Batik Air, another Malaysian airline, is also operating flights from Amritsar to Kuala Lumpur 4 days a week and Singapore’s Scoot 5 days a week. Passengers can also go to Australia and other countries through these flights. The Initiative was continuously contacting AirAsia X CEO Ben Ismail and India General Manager Suresh Nair with statistics and other information to resume these flight services. This will not only make travel easier for the Punjabi community, but will also benefit the tourism industry of Amritsar.
