Bureau Report: The then SHO of Thana Sabhanupar and in-charge of Chowki Badshahpur has been named in the FIR for allegedly letting off smugglers after taking a bribe of Rs 21 lakh in Kapurthala. The case also involves the mediator who made the deal. The SHO was currently posted in the Kotwali police station, who has now been arrested.
SPD Raminder Singh has confirmed the matter. On the other hand, there is an atmosphere of confusion among many police officers in this matter. According to the sources, the names of some other people including DSP are likely to come out after the investigation.
The accused disclosed in the police interrogation
The case came to light when the police of Jalandhar village in Subhanpur area on June 12 arrested a drug smuggler with 6 kg of heroin and drug money worth 3 thousand rupees. When Kapurthala police questioned them on a production warrant, they accused the SHO and the outpost in-charge of taking a bribe and leaving in one case. The name of the accused was Guljar Singh alias Joga. Amandeep Singh alias Amna, Joginder Singh was remanded on production warrant on Guljar’s notice.
The smuggler was released in the case registered in February 2022
In the interrogation, Gujral Singh alias Joga and Joginder Singh alias Bhai said that on March 12, 2023, the police of Chowki Badshahpur District Kapurthala caught Gujral Singh alias Joga. At that time SI Harjit Singh came there who is currently posted in Kotwali police station. Joga was wanted in an NDPS Act case registered in Sultanpur Lodhi police station on February 11, 2022.
Joga said that his wife Jagjit Kaur Mandi Grewal had fixed a deal for 21 lakh rupees with the in-charge of Chowki Badshahpur and the SHO of Thana Kotwali to release him from the police. One lakh rupees was taken by SHO Harjit Singh in the post itself, while the next day SHO and post in-charge Paramjit took the remaining 19 lakh rupees.
The SSP himself did the investigation
In the presence of Joga’s father Joginder Singh and Sarpanch Rajpal Singh’s brother Aunkar Singh alias Kari, 19 lakh rupees were taken by Harjit Singh in the outpost Badshahpur and 1 lakh was taken separately by the outpost in-charge Paramjit Singh. handed over to Joga’s father Joginder alias Bhai and Aunkar Singh. After this matter was revealed, SSP Kapurthala of Jalandhar village was informed, he himself took charge of the investigation and found both accused and SHO ASI Harjit Singh and the then in-charge of Badshahpur outpost Paramjit Singh and the sarpanch of Buta village who made the deal. A case was registered against brother Aunkar Singh in Subhanpur under Section 7 of the Anti-Corruption Act, Section 222 and 120B of the IPC.
