Three cases of gangland have come to light in Punjab so far. The Animal Husbandry Department has been alerted and has issued an advisory to all district officials to increase vigilance in their respective areas. The worrying thing here is that currently there is no vaccine to prevent goiter in the country. According to experts, the deadly disease of glands is more dangerous than cancer. It has a mortality rate of 95 percent.

So far one case of Glandar has been found in Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Bathinda. In view of this, the animal husbandry department has issued an alert. An advisory has been issued by the department. Instructions have been given that if an infected animal with glanders symptoms is detected in an area, it should be immediately isolated and sampled to prevent its spread to other animals.
Apart from this, if any horse, mule or donkey is found to be infected with glanders, an area of up to five kilometers of that area should be declared a surveillance zone and sampling of the rest of the animals should be done there. Instructions have also been given to declare an area up to 25 km as a surveillance zone. The infected animal is killed and buried in a 10-foot pit to prevent the virus from spreading.
Director of Animal Husbandry Department Rampal Mittal said that preventive steps are being taken in relation to this disease under the action plan issued by the Government of India. Concerned officials of all districts have been asked to increase vigilance. Horse riders have also been asked to exercise caution.
