During the proceedings, the Commission asked the accused officials whether UPPCL was in existence in 1911 and whether the people of Varanasi were getting electricity then. Umashankar Yadav, a resident of Varanasi, went to pay an electricity bill of Rs 2.24 lakh on one connection from UPPCL. Umashankar raised a question on this bill but he did not get a proper solution.
Umashankar sought information from the corporation under Right to Information in December 2022. But when they did not get a proper answer, they went to the higher authorities. In April 2023, Yadav knocked on the door of the Uttar Pradesh Commission. State Information Commission Ajay Kumar Upreti said that as a result four UPCL officials were found guilty and they were asked to feed children in 2 orphanages in Varanasi.
