Mumbai. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday expressed confidence that on the basis of the development work done since 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will return to power at the Center and in Maharashtra in next year’s elections. Gadkari said, “We will win and once again BJP and NDA will form government both in Maharashtra and at the Centre. The good work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will yield good results.” Gadkari said, “Our performance is our strength and people expect the same from us. We have instilled faith in people with our good work, which we will take to them.”

“I can say with confidence that the work that has been done in the last (over eight) years under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is far more than what the 60 years of Congress rule,” Dakri said. On the development of green transportation, the minister said, “Hydrogen is the fuel of our future and India’s future vehicles will run on hydrogen and green fuel.”

“We import fossil fuel worth Rs 16 lakh crore every year, but very soon our farmers will produce green fuel and green hydrogen,” he said, expressing satisfaction over the development of highways in the country. In the coming years, it will revolutionize public transport in the country and the new highway will drastically reduce travel time between major cities. However, he said that his ministry and the government have failed to bring down the accident rate on Indian roads.

“We wanted to reduce road accidents by 50 per cent by 2024, but we will not be able to achieve that,” he said. He said that for this human behavior has to be changed as people were still not following rules like red light, car seat belt or wearing helmet. Gadkari called for the need to introduce road safety education at the primary level to make Indians aware about it at an early age. (agency)
