ED action on ex-engineer of ‘Gamada’, property confiscated

Surinder Pal Singh alias Pahlwan, who was chief engineer in Punjab Mandi Board and Greater Mohali Development Authority, has been prosecuted by the ED. The ED has taken over the case of Surinder Pal from Punjab Vigilance and seized properties worth Rs 37.26 crore at various places of his relatives and close associates. Bank accounts have also been sealed.

After moving around in various departments of the Punjab government, Surinder Pal, who served as an engineer in the Mandi Board and Gamada, was notorious for corruption. He made crores of rupees by misusing his position. ED observed in its investigation that Pahlwan took crores of rupees in exchange of work from several companies holding the post of Chief Engineer.

The wrestler earned crores of rupees and built three companies and invested all the money in them. ED has seized 63 properties belonging to the wrestler, his relatives and close associates. All these properties were built with ill-gotten gains. Earlier, the ED had also seized FDR worth Rs 5.93 crore in various banks of the wrestler.

The first case regarding corruption was registered against Engineer Surinder Pal alias Pahlwan by Punjab Vigilance, but the case was taken over by the ED after the transactions of crores of rupees in the accounts and investment in the companies came to light.

After reaching the ED, the wrestler was given a list of questions and asked to account for crores of rupees. He was asked about his sources of income but the engineer wrestler who has 3 private companies along with FDR worth crores of rupees, properties worth crores of rupees could not give a satisfactory answer. The ED took action on it.
