Chandigarh, August 23, 2023 – The short film and poster made regarding the Senior Citizens Act-2007 for the purpose of making the senior citizens of the state aware of their rights was released here today by the Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development. Baljit Kaur released.

Speaking on the occasion, the Cabinet Minister said that for the purpose of giving respect to the elderly and securing their livelihood, the government has implemented the Parenting and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act-2007. Under this act, there is a provision to get maintenance allowance for children, relatives (blood relations) who do not take care of their parents, the elderly.

He said that maintenance tribunal and appellant tribunal have been established under this act. Where any senior citizen can complain about his problem to the sub-divisional officer of the concerned sub-division.

The Cabinet Minister said that under this Act, the District Social Security Officer has been appointed as the Parenting Officer and it also includes providing the necessary amount for food, clothing, shelter and health care to the elderly citizens as basic needs.

On this occasion, Director of Social Security, Women and Child Development Department Ms. Madhvi Kataria, AIG (Personnel-2) Mr. Gaurav Tura and Additional Director of Social Security, Women and Child Development Department Mr. Charanjit Singh were specially present.
