Denmark Prolongs Entry Ban for a Religious Preacher for Another 2 Years

The Danish Immigration Service has said that the country has decided to prolong the entry ban for a religious preacher who is part of the national sanction list for another two years.

Announcing the news, the authority said that the ban on the religious preacher had been prolonged until March 2025, and the same pointed out that the sanction list of Denmark currently includes another 20 people, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“One person already on the list has been granted an entry ban for a new period of 2 years. The list still contains 21 persons,” the statement of the Danish Immigration Service reads.

In line with the current Danish law, all persons who are placed on the national sanction list are forbidden from entering Denmark’s territory. In addition, they are also forbidden from entering the territory of any other Schengen Area member states.

Generally, the entry ban applies to those designated for as long as they are part of the list, and it gets extended for a period of two years if necessary.

“A foreign national who is placed on the sanction list may not travel to or reside in Denmark or any other Schengen-area country. The entry ban is valid as long as the foreign national is placed on the list. Individuals are placed on the list for two years at a time,” the Danish Immigration Service notes.

The same explains that foreign religious preachers can be placed on the sanction list if they display suspicious behaviour and if the authorities believe that they could pose a threat to Denmark’s public order.

The decision to place foreign religious preachers on Denmark’s sanction list is taken by the Danish Immigration Service, and foreign nationals who hold a Danish residence permit, as well as those who are subject to the EU regulations, cannot be placed on the list.

In addition to the above-mentioned, the Danish authorities emphasise that individuals who help a foreign national that is placed on the sanction list are also subject to measures. Those helping sanctioned individuals face a fine or imprisonment for a period of up to three years.

Religious preachers placed on Denmark’s sanction list can request their case to be reopened if they wish for the authorities to revise their decision. They can comment on the case, and then after considering the matter, the Danish Immigration Service informs and gives a reason for the decision.

The entry ban for religious preachers placed on Denmark’s sanction list initially remains valid for two years, and after this period is over, the case gets assessed, and the competent authorities decide to prolong or lift the measure.
