Death toll rises in 2 IS suicide attacks in Iran, 11 suspects arrested from 6 states

Iran's state TV reported on Saturday that the death toll in the suicide bombings has risen to 91. Many of the injured are still in critical condition.

An 8-year-old boy and a 67-year-old man died from injuries sustained in the suicide attacks, state TV quoted the country's emergency services spokesman Babak Yektaparast as saying. Yektaparast said that 102 people are still under treatment in hospitals, out of which 11 injured are in critical condition.

Attack on Soleimani's fourth anniversary

The attack took place in Kerman, about 820 km southeast of Tehran, the capital of Iran. The suicide attack was carried out on Wednesday during a memorial service held on the fourth anniversary of the killing of General Qasem Soleimani, head of the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force. General Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in 2020. He led the Quds Force.

In Wednesday's attack in Kerman, a suicide bomber blew himself up, followed by a second suicide bomber about 20 minutes later. The attack happened as emergency workers and others were trying to help the injured. The death toll in the second attack was higher.

On the other hand, the Daesh terrorist organization also claimed responsibility for the deadliest attack in Iran in 40 years in a statement released on its Telegram channel on Thursday. The group claimed that the two brothers detonated their explosive jackets when they came to mourn near General Soleimani's grave.
