Cancer screening is essential for health: Cabinet Minister Khudians

Basant Singh Rowi, Ludhiana: Eki Hospital located on Chandigarh Road organized a very successful cancer screening camp with the support of World Cancer Care. The event was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian as the chief guest. During this camp, Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu, MLA Daljit Singh Grewal, MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Baba Dhanna Singh, Gadwasu Vice Chancellor Inderjit Singh specially arrived.

Chief Director of the camp Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh, Chief Urologist and Transplant Surgeon, said that the aim of this noble initiative was to create awareness about cancer of the testes, kidney, breast, colon, uterus etc. and to provide free screening services to the community. Gurmeet Singh Khudian appreciated the joint efforts of Eki Hospital and World Cancer Care for this important event. He stressed the importance of regular cancer screening as an effective measure to fight the disease. He thanked the urologists, uro-oncologists, gynecologists and other medical professionals and the volunteers of Eki Hospital and World Cancer Care who worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the camp. Dr. Aulakh highlighted the importance of early detection in increasing survival rates and improving treatment outcomes for patients with kidney, prostate and other cancers. He emphasized that such screening camps play an important role in identifying cancer at its early stages, enabling timely intervention and potentially saving lives. Dr. Aulakh thanked the entire medical team especially Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, President WCC for their dedication and efforts to provide the necessary health services. The cancer screening camp received overwhelming response from the public, with around 500 people benefiting from the services provided. The camp mainly focused on three essential cancer screening tests, namely mammography for breast cancer, PSA (prostate-specific antigen) for prostate cancer and Pap smear for cervical and uterine cancer in women. Apart from this, extensive blood tests are also conducted to aid in the early detection and prevention of various types of cancer.
