The cyclone has wreaked havoc in Northern California, USA. It is being told that the electrical wires were broken due to the storm. At least 1,50,000 people are forced to live without electricity during this period.
According to media reports, flights at San Francisco International Airport had to be cancelled. Many planes are parked on the runway. At least one death was also reported in San Mateo County, south of San Francisco.
Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California at Los Angeles, said it was a devastating, powerful and sudden storm. We may be seeing impacts that equate to a strong tropical storm or a weak cyclone.
A rapidly strengthening low pressure system reportedly brought wind gusts of up to 80 mph. This caused a lot of damage. About 260,000 homes and businesses across the state lost power.
Let us tell you that California has been under the influence of many storms since the end of December last year. The state has also experienced floods, rains and record snowfall.
So far, more than 20 people have died in California and billions of dollars have been lost. This storm is expected to last till Wednesday night. It is moving toward Nevada and Arizona.
