New Delhi. The Supreme Court has now agreed to form a new bench to hear pleas challenging the premature release of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case. Significantly, before this, in December 2022, the CJI was badly enraged on repeated appeals to form a new bench. He had said that there will be no hearing in the matter soon, do not bother.

Let us inform that, during the 2002 Godhra incident, the convicts of rape and murder of Bilkis Bano and her family members were released prematurely on August 15 last year. Actually, under the amnesty policy, the Gujarat government had released him today. All the above accused had been in jail for 15 years.

Let us tell you that all these convicts had approached the Supreme Court for premature release after serving more than 15 years in jail. At the same time, the apex court had also directed the Gujarat government to look into the issue of waiving his sentence. After this the government had formed a committee. After the investigation report of this panel came, all the culprits were freed from jail on August 15 last year.

On the other hand, the victim Bilkis Bano had said that her faith in justice has been shaken by the premature release of 11 convicts serving life sentence in the case related to her and seven of her family members. Along with this, Bilkis Bano also appealed to the Gujarat government to ‘withdraw this decision’ and return her right to ‘live life without fear and peace’.
