Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and PTI chief Imran Khan has got a big relief in the Toshakhana case. The Islamabad High Court overturned the trial court’s decision and ordered his release from jail. It has been called a victory of the Constitution by PTI.
Let us tell you that recently the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif resigned from his post and Anwar ul Haq Caretaker has become the Prime Minister in his place. Balochistan Awami Party-affiliated Senator Anwar-ul-Haq will head the caretaker government until fresh elections are held later this year. Prime Minister Sharif had recommended the dissolution of the National Assembly on August 9. In such a situation, according to the constitution, the next general elections are to be held in 90 days.
Imran was troubled by insects in jail
Imran Khan was lodged in Attock Jail, but he wanted to be transferred from Attock to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Imran Khan’s lawyers say that their 70-year-old client does not want to stay in Attock Jail as flies during the day and insects at night have made it difficult for him to live.
3 years imprisonment, 5 years ban from contesting elections
In the Toshakhana case, Imran Khan was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Apart from this, the Election Commission banned him from contesting elections for five years. After being declared guilty in the Toshakhana case, Imran challenged the lower court’s decision in the Islamabad High Court.
He had said on the lower court’s decision that the punishment awarded to him by the lower court in the case of corruption was a biased decision of the judge. This is a slap in the face of a completely fair trial. Also it amounts to making a mockery of justice and due process.
