The Punjab Prison Department has suspended Assistant Superintendent Kamaljit Singh of Central Jail Patiala. An inmate of the jail had alleged that he was being tortured after the Assistant Superintendent asked him for money and did not give it. These allegations were investigated by the senior officials of the jail department, in which the assistant superintendent was suspended if the allegations were proved true.
Additional Superintendent of Patiala Jail Harcharan Singh Gill confirmed the suspension of Assistant Superintendent Kamaljit Singh and said that he was immediately implemented as soon as the order was received from the jail administration. The entire matter has been investigated by the senior officials of the department, so they cannot say anything more.
According to information, a complaint was lodged against the Assistant Superintendent of Patiala Jail by a prisoner from Jakhal, Haryana, who is serving a 10-year sentence for drug trafficking. Drug trafficking cases have been registered against this prisoner in police stations of Punjab and Haryana.
This prisoner had alleged that he was being asked for money by the Assistant Superintendent Kamaljit Singh in the jail. He is being tortured in every way for not paying the money. Now he is not able to bear this situation anymore.

It may be mentioned that earlier, Prabhjot Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Nabha Jail of Patiala district, was also accused of extorting extortion from the prisoners in the jail. Later, a case was also registered against him by the Patiala police.
