Punjab Congress got a big blow today when senior leader and former MLA Ashwani Sekhri joined BJP. He has formally joined the BJP today. Punjab BJP president Sunil Kumar Jakhar has given Sekhari an evening in the BJP. Sekhri has been MLA from Batala for 4 times and has been playing an active role in Majha politics.
Sekhari, who was once very close to Navjot Sidhu, has been angry with the party for some time now. Sekhri Navjot was believed to be from Sidhu’s faction. Even after Sidhu became president and resigned, he remained active in Sidhu’s campaign.
While joining the BJP, Sekhari said that he and his family have been associated with the Congress for the past 70 years but today they have joined the BJP. He said that in Congress now it is not a battle of people but of position. He said that my old colleagues have joined the BJP. Today Congress has deviated from its original ideologies. At present, only the battle for the chair is going on in the Congress. Now, positions are distributed not on the basis of seniority but on the strength of money.
