Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday lauded the contribution of Punjab in the field of sports and hoped that necessary steps would have been taken in the last four and a half years against drug menace in the state. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, he said that it was said before the last assembly elections in Punjab that the state would be freed from the grip of drugs.

Thakur said, “I hope that in the last four and a half years, the state government has taken steps in this direction so that the youth can be drug free.” Praising the contribution of Punjab in sports, he said, “As far as sports is concerned, it is a state subject. States have an important role to play in this. The Central Government contributes through various policies.
