Bureau Report: The student elections of 11 colleges of Punjab University and its affiliated cities will be held on September 6. This was announced by Jitendra Grover of PU’s Department of Student Welfare. Along with this, the election code came into force in Punjab University.

According to the program related to the elections, nominations will be filled from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on August 31. The list of candidates will be posted on the notice board of PU and colleges on the same day at 12 noon.

Names can be withdrawn till 12 noon on September 1 and the final list of candidates will be prepared at 2.30 pm. Voting will be held in the morning on September 6 and the counting of votes will begin by 12 noon and the results will be announced in the evening. Jitendra Grover of DSW said that the use of printed material will not be allowed this time. On the other hand, SSP of Chandigarh Kanvardeep Kaur has assured to provide full security during the election process.

66 thousand students will participate

There are about 16 thousand students in Punjab University. About 50 thousand students are studying in 11 different colleges of the city. That is, about 66 thousand students will participate in the student elections this time.
There may be competition between 7 people for the post of president in PU. Students of different political parties are active in the university for this. It includes NSUI of Congress, ABVP of BJP, SOI of Sromani Akali Dal and CYSS of Aam Aadmi Party.

Apart from this, Punjab University Student Union (PUSU), Indian Student Association (ISA), The Student for Society (SFS), Punjab Student Union (PSU), INSO, SOPU and HPSU are also in the fray.

Punjab has given 2 guarantees for PU

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has released a grant to Punjab University on behalf of the Punjab government a day before the announcement of elections. The Punjab government has released Rs 25.91 lakh for boys’ hostels and Rs 23 lakhs for girls’ hostels.
