An amount of Rs.25 crore has been allocated during the current financial year by the Punjab government to improve the nutrition and health status of pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Giving more information in this regard, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan is continuously working to improve the nutrition and health status of pregnant women and lactating mothers. He said that under this scheme, a total of 25 crores have been distributed to 52229 women beneficiaries during the current financial year in the state.

The cabinet minister said that the government has given Rs 5000/- in two installments (Rs 3000+2000) to women aged 19 years and above on the birth of their first live child and Rs 6000/- on the birth of a second girl child. are going This amount is given under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana to uplift the nutritional and health status of pregnant women and lactating mothers. The main objective of this scheme is to improve nutrition and health of mother and child by providing partial compensation to women.

The minister said that under the Matru Vandana Yojana, a target of at least 98036 beneficiaries had been filled by March 2024, which the department had completed by November 2023 and by January 2024, about 1 lakh 16 thousand women beneficiaries had filled the forms. have gone

The minister said that the objective of this scheme is to improve the declining sex ratio of girls at birth in the state. He also said that forms for this financial assistance are filled by Anganwadi workers in all Anganwadi Centers of the state. He said that the payment of financial assistance is made directly into the bank accounts/post office accounts of the beneficiaries, which must be linked with the Aadhaar card.

Dr. Baljit Kaur instructed the officials of the department to fill the forms of the eligible beneficiaries of the state and provide maximum benefit to these beneficiaries.
