On Monday, the 4 associates of Khalistan supporter Amritpal arrested by the police were produced in the Baba Bakala Sahib court of Amritsar. Amritpal’s uncle Harjit Singh, who surrendered on Sunday night, was sent to Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail. National Security Act (NSA) has been imposed on Harjit Singh. On the other hand, Amritpal’s father Tarsem Singh has expressed his concern in front of the media over his son’s non-arrest.
On Monday, the police produced Amritpal’s 4 associates Gurpreet Singh, Harpreet Singh, Bhupinder Singh and Sukhman in the court of Baba Bakala Sahib. The police have registered an FIR against these four under Sections 279, 186, 506, 427 of the IPC and 25, 54 of the Arms Act. The police have demanded a 7-day remand citing the recovery of weapons etc. from the four. After hearing both sides, the court sent the four to 3-day police remand.
Uncle doesn’t even know where Amritpal is
On receiving the information that the accused will be produced in the court of Baba Bakala Sahib by the police, Tarsem Singh reached the court to meet his brother Harjit Singh. However, before this, the police had placed NSA on Harjit Singh and sent him to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam. According to Tarsem Singh, Harjit Singh called the family on Sunday night. Then Harjit Singh had told that he had spoken to the DIG of Border Range of Punjab Police and he was going to surrender.
Tarsem Singh claimed that he had asked Harjit Singh about Amritpal but Harjit Singh also had no information about him. Amritpal and his uncle Harjit Singh had left home together from village Jallupur Khera on the morning of March 18, but were chased by the police and separated on the way.
Tarsem Singh claimed that in the phone conversation, Harjit Singh was saying that Amritpal would be in the custody of the police, but he also could not say anything definitively.
