Till now there was information about the order of only 470 aircraft, but now this new thing has come out in the information given by the company. A senior company official said that the deal also includes an option to buy 370 aircraft. Air India’s Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer Nipun Agarwal said in a LinkedIn post that the airline is humbled by the enthusiasm the airline is seeing around the world for the order to buy the aircraft. He told that this order of 840 aircraft has been placed under the process that started with the privatization of Air India two years ago. The order will buy 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing over the next decade, with an option to buy 370 more.

Information about buying 470 aircraft came earlier

On February 14, Air India announced the purchase of 250 aircraft from the French company Airbus. These will include 40 large size aircraft. Along with this, a deal was signed to buy 220 aircraft from America’s Boeing Company. That means in total 470 aircraft will be purchased. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran gave this information on Tuesday. The Tata Group-owned airline will buy 40 widebody A350s and 210 smallbody aircraft from Airbus. In the online meeting, Chandrasekaran said that a letter of intent has been signed with Airbus for the purchase of these aircraft. The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, among others. Large size aircraft will be used for long distance flights. Tata group had acquired Air India in January last year. The world’s largest order with 450 aircraft was placed by American Airlines in 2011, ahead of Air India’s 470 aircraft order.

The Airbus firm’s order includes 210 A-320/321 Neo/XLR and 40 A350-900/1000. The Boeing firm’s order includes 190 737-MAXs, 20 787s and 10 777s. The first aircraft to arrive will be 25 brand-new Boeing B737-800s and six Airbus A350-900s in the second half of 2023, with deliveries extending through 2025 and beyond. The A350 aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce engines, and the B777/787s will be powered by GE Aerospace’s engines. All single-aisle aircraft will be powered by CFM International’s engines.
