Following the assurance of Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, the Aartis (Commission Agents) of the state have ended their strike with immediate effect. The Agriculture Minister asked the Aartis, procurement agencies and the Punjab Mandi Board to ensure that farmers do not face any hardship during the ongoing paddy procurement season.

The Agriculture Minister held a meeting with Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Burst here today at Kisan Bhawan with the representatives of the Federation of Arthiya Association of Punjab led by Vijay Kalra and discussed the issues facing them.

Biometric procurement system and EPF by Aartis. On the issues raised, the Agriculture Minister assured them that their issues will be raised with the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution so that they can be resolved quickly.

He also asked Mr. Alok Kumar, Deputy General Manager (DGM) posted at Chandigarh of Food Corporation of India (FCI) to submit a report on these issues within ten days.

Meanwhile, Punjab Mandi Board Secretary Amrit Kaur Gill briefed the Agriculture Minister about the current status of implementation of biometric procurement system in the state. He said that so far 876 markets have been selected for this system in the state. He further informed that the Mandi Board has 5400 vacant/saleable plots under the New Mandi Township Department and the department is planning to sell these plots through e-auction.

Gurmeet Singh Khudian also directed the officials of the Punjab Mandi Board to ensure other basic facilities including drinking water, toilets and seating space for the farmers in all the mandis of the state. He said that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the rules of the procurement process or involved in other illegal activities.

Reiterating the commitment of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure the welfare of all sections of the society, the Agriculture Minister said that the state government would provide all possible help to the aartis and farmers of the state to strengthen the aartis-farmers relationship.
