Afghanistan Flash Floods: 31 people have been killed so far, while more than 40 people are missing due to floods after heavy rains in central Afghanistan. Shafiullah Rahimi, a spokesman for the Taliban’s disaster management ministry, said on Sunday that 74 people had been injured and at least 41 were missing, AFP reported, citing officials.

Rahimi said that floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in seven provinces of Afghanistan have partially or completely damaged 606 residential houses as well as hundreds of acres of agricultural land.

The work of saving the flood affected people continues

“Ministry teams along with teams from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Public Welfare, Red Crescent, provincial officials and other officials reached the flooded areas and carried out rescue operations,” said a spokesperson of the Ministry of Disaster Management.

The Taliban’s State Ministry of Disaster Management also said in a statement on Sunday that since the beginning of 2023, nearly 1,00,000 families affected by natural disasters in various provinces have received food and cash assistance.

At least 214 people have died in natural disasters in the past four months, including the latest flood-related deaths, it said.
