In the selection program Punjabi (Punjab), including seats reserved for women and non-Muslims in the national and provincial assemblies of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Following the orders of the Supreme Court, the Commission released the election program late at night.

PTI made the demand

The Lahore High Court blocked the voting process. And has suspended the Commission's notification for appointment of DRO. It is being said that this decision has been taken by ignoring the orders of the Supreme Court. This decision of the Lahore High Court came after a petition by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

PTI is Imran's party, which had requested for timely elections in a petition filed in the Supreme Court. After the judgment of the Lahore High Court, the Commission filed a petition in the Supreme Court to set aside the order of the High Court. The Supreme Court of Pakistan accepted this petition, due to which the election process came back on track.

Dissolution of the National Assembly

Earlier, President of Pakistan Arif Alvi had dissolved the National Assembly three days before the completion of his five-year term on the advice of then Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The early dissolution of the lower house by the previous government was aimed at ensuring elections after 90 days as per Pakistan's constitution.

However, this did not happen, as the ECP cited the need for fresh delimitation of constituencies after the Council of Common Interests (CCI) approved the results of the 2023 digital census. Due to this, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and many others have filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding timely elections. After this, the Supreme Court ordered the Election Commission and the President to hold talks and then the date of February 8 was fixed for voting.
