New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for kharif crops for the marketing season 2023-24. This decision has been taken in the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It has approved an increase of Rs 143 in the minimum support price of paddy to Rs 2,183 per quintal for 2023-24. Along with this, the price of A grade paddy has been increased to Rs 2203 per quintal. He said that the minimum support price of moong was increased to Rs 8,558 per quintal. The minimum support price of jowar has been fixed at Rs 3180 per quintal. Meanwhile, the farmers have protested against the increase of only 7 percent on paddy by the Centre. Sarwan Singh Pandher, General Secretary of Kisan Majdoor Sangharsh Committee, Punjab has described it as a joke with the farmers.

‘Seed price increased by 200 percent’

Kisan Majdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab General Secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher said that despite the passing of 9 years of Modi government, they have never understood the pain of farmers, Pandher said that the price of paddy seed has increased by 200 percent while the government has given 7 The price of paddy has increased per cent, he said that the government has announced the MSP of other crops including pulses but the central government has never bought these decisions from Punjab.
