Bureau report : After the announcement of Panchayat elections, now Aam Aadmi Party has started taking over the Municipal Corporations as well. First, the councilors of the Congress were brought with them and now the Aam Aadmi Party has taken control of the Moga Municipal Corporation. Baljit Singh Channi has become the new mayor of Moga. Out of total 50 councillors, 42 councilors of Moga Municipal Corporation supported Baljit Singh Channi. 8 councilors were absent during the voting. After which Channi was elected mayor without voting.
The new mayor is a municipal councilor from ward number 8. In the 2021 corporation elections, Baljit Singh Channi won the election on the Aam Aadmi Party’s election symbol. Baljit Singh is a social worker and works as a vehicle repairer. Meanwhile, tight security was arranged in the Mini Secretariat. The divisional commissioner also reached there for the election of the new mayor.
Earlier, on July 4, the mayor of the municipal corporation, Nitika Bhalla, was removed from the chair of the mayor by the councilors of the legislative group. Nitika Bhalla held the post of mayor for almost 2 years. After this, Senior and Deputy Mayor Praveen Sharma was given the additional charge of Mayor.
