AAP targets opponents for hike in electricity rates, demands rollback of exorbitant hike

Shiromani Akali Dal: Shiromani Akali Dal President Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the Aam Aadmi Party has mastered the politics of lies and deception by increasing electricity rates for consumers of all sections immediately after winning the by-election of Jalandhar parliamentary constituency.

Demanding immediate withdrawal of this exorbitant increase, Shiromani Akali Dal president said that Aam Aadmi Party has punished Punjabis for expressing faith in the party and has betrayed them.

Shiromani Akali Dal president said that Aam Aadmi Party had sought votes in the Jalandhar by-election in the name of 300 units of free electricity scheme. He said that with the increase in electricity rates, this scheme has also ended indirectly. He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is claiming that the government will bear the cost of the burden on the consumers due to the increase in rates, but in reality the government is wiping its eyes in the name of making any payment to PSPCL in exchange for 300 units.

Sukhbir Badal said that the government has already paid Rs 20,400 crore to PSPCL and it does not have the ability to bear any additional burden. He also said that the AAP government increased the electricity rates for all sections including the lowest rate section. is He said that 70 paise has been increased from zero to 100 units and 80 paise has been increased from 100 to 300 units for the lowest electricity consuming category.

He asserted that common man will be badly affected by this increase. He said that he has shown his true colors. It has proved that it cannot be overstated. It deliberately postponed this increase till the by-election of Jalandhar parliamentary constituency and repeatedly lied to the consumers that we will give subsidy to the weaker sections. He asked that if the subsidy is to be given, then why the rates were increased?

Also, Sukhbir Badal said that it is surprising that the new government has not only increased the electricity rates but also increased the fixed charges by 15 rupees per kilowatt for all consumers. He said that along with domestic consumers, rates have also been increased for commercial and industrial consumers due to which it will not be easy for them to work in Punjab and once again the industry will start moving to neighboring states.

The Akali Dal president said that it seems that the AAP government also wants to withdraw the free electricity facility provided by former Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal to the farmers. He said that it has also increased the rate for pump sets for agricultural supply from Rs 5.66 to Rs 6.55 per unit which will further increase the subsidy payable to PSPCL while the AAP government is already a defaulter of the electricity corporation.

“Electricity rates for Sri Darbar Sahib and Sri Durgiana Mandir have also been increased by 30 paise per unit and they demanded that they be withdrawn immediately.” – Sukhbir Singh Badal, President, Shiromani Akali Dal

He asked the Chief Minister to cut his Rs 750 crore advertising budget and crack down on corruption to release the outstanding subsidy of PSPCL.

Sukhbir Badal said that PSPCL is in dire need of money, but it does not have money even for routine repairs of transformers and grids. He said that it will have a very negative impact on the farmers and the agricultural economy during the Jhola season. He also told how the AAP government has made PSPCL a pauper while it had become the number one company during the Sardar Parkash Singh Badal government.
