Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will dedicate Guru Amardas Thermal Power Limited (GATPL) Goindwal to the people of the state on February 11. Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) incorporated GATPL on January 12 and with the completion of the acquisition process on February 7, GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited has become a wholly owned subsidiary of GATPL.

He said that now this power house of GVK Power Limited is completely the property of Punjab Government. This thermal plant established at the holy city of Goindwal Sahib, which was touched by the feet of the third Guru Shri Amar Das Ji, is also named as Shri Guru Amar Das Thermal Plant.

With this acquisition, GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited's liability cases of Rs 3000 crore will be closed. In this way, the people of the state will get relief from the sudden increase in electricity rates. While this will help in providing cheap electricity to the electricity consumers of the state, it will also improve the availability of electricity.

Harbhajan Singh ETO said that talks are going on with the Union Ministry of Power to provide coal from the Pachwara mine to run this plant economically. He said that this will save the state about Rs 300 crore annually. He said that the thermal power plant has about 1100 acres of land, out of which 700 acres of land has been used for the construction of the project and about 400 acres is still unused.
