A special campaign by the Punjab government to clear the backlog of the disabled from July 20

Dr. Baljit Kaur: The state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. Accordingly, a special campaign will be conducted from July 20 to September 20, 2023 on a priority basis to clear the backlog in direct recruitment and promotion quota in all government departments of the state.

Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the state government is making efforts to fill the backlog of the disabled on priority basis. He said that 32 departments have provided information in this regard and based on the information, there are a total of 920 vacancies. This includes the number of posts to be filled through direct recruitment and promotion. He directed the officials to get the backlog report from other departments immediately and ensure inclusion in this campaign.

The Cabinet Minister directed to maintain the roster register of disabled persons in a proper manner so that in future the disabled persons can get the benefit of direct recruitment and promotion in time as per the instructions of the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016 and the Punjab Government. He ordered the department to organize workshops in this regard and prepare master trainers.

He also said that these trainers should provide training at all levels to prepare the roster registers of the disabled in the head offices and regional offices in a proper manner and ensure that the vacancy roster register of the disabled quota is prepared as per the instructions in the future.

Special Chief Secretary Social Security, Women and Child Development Raji P. Srivastava asked the officials to collect data regarding the backlog of direct recruitment and promotion quota of persons with disabilities in all government departments so that the process of clearing the backlog of persons with disabilities could be completed. Apart from this, he said that continuous efforts were made to check the roster register on a large scale and prepare the required data. Deficiencies were rectified by checking the roster register.

Director of Social Security, Women and Child Development Department Madhavi Kataria held a meeting with 32 government departments and directed to publish advertisement before 20th July 2023 for recruitment against backlog of direct recruitment of disabled quota. He said that the advertisement should be issued specially to fill the backlog posts of the disabled quota, the other vacant posts of the department should not be included in it. He said that in addition to issuing advertisements regarding the backlog of direct recruitment, action should be taken quickly to make promotions against the backlog in the promotion quota.
